A major factor in the delightful feel of Lake Tahoe is that it is one of the world’s most enjoyable climates. Few places on earth can claim a climate of such great variety and year-round enchantment as that which graces the sierra. The four very distinct seasons bring continual year round variety and change. Sunshine is the only factor which is year round. In over 50 years of recorded weather history in the Basin, 80% of the days have had sunshine.

During the winter for every one day of snowfall there are four days of sunshine. The average snow pack is 225 inches or about 20 feet. The snow is said to be rare quality, being able to withstand cold temperatures and still retain its fluffy powder. The average winter temperature is 50 degrees to a low of 16 degrees.

The summer season is as dry and sunny as a desert climate with over 93% sunshine, yet rarely exceeds 80 degrees. Rainfall has been recorded 14 out of Springs 90 day period, and on 13 days in autumn.

The surface temperature of the Lake in the summer is around 67 degrees. Out on the beaches the shallow the water is warmer depending on the air temperature. Swimming in Lake Tahoe is very refreshing, and some days surprisingly warmer then others.
